shipping strike by Bristol Beaufighter Mark VICs of the North Coates Strike Wing on a heavily-armed northbound convoy off Ijmuiden, Holland. A Beaufighter is seen in the left foreground breaking off its attack on an auxiliary minesweeper towing paravanes. The arrowed vessel is a 'Sperrbrecher' (magnetic-mine detonating vessel) , behind which are two of four merchant vessels under strong escort. Two merchantmen were hit by torpedos from aircraft of No. 254 Squadron RAF, and further damage was caused to the 'Sperrbrecher' and a number of the escorting trawlers, for the loss of two aircraft, one of them flown by 245's Commanding Officer.
